Case Study:

Developing Global Leaders

Situation

A client organization has had an ongoing need to grow executive/management talent to take on leadership assignments around the world. They identified and implemented best practices in action learning methodologies that would contribute directly both to individual leadership development for key people and to the development of the entire global business organization, while addressing real business needs at the enterprise level.

Hyde & Lichter was asked to develop an integrated individual development plan that would foster executive growth through experiential learning and the accomplishment of relevant business projects that addressed global organizational needs.

Client Solution

  • An assessment was conducted of each participant, identifying personal strengths and development needs relative to potential global leadership roles.
  • A 360-degree feedback tool was used to generate a profile that was reviewed with each participant to help him/her understand personal strengths and shortcomings, as perceived by others.
  • A “relationship map” was created to help identify where relationships with key stakeholders needed to be improved upon or established, both inside and outside of the organization.
  • A career progression plan was designed that focused on possible career paths, each path offering roles and learning experiences that would build his/her executive abilities relative to future career assignments.
  • A personal development plan was established for each participant that was geared to real business objectives and organizational development needs. Included were opportunities for experiential learning activities in pursuit of their targeted objectives. This plan was reviewed with executive sponsors who needed to support and help implement it.

Outcome

This program has identified and prepared a significantly greater number of leaders for global positions, and has enabled the client to continue its double-digit growth around the globe.
